Momento Mori: The Brontë Pictures

Following visit to The Brontë Parsonage & Museum last year, Heather was inspired to create a series of works.  She was stuck by Emily, Charlotte, Ann and Branwell’s intense, but short lives which were filled with creative passion and a love of the nature which surrounded them. She was also interested in their legacy and how their work has maintained its powerful, emotional energy since they first published under the pseudonyms of Currer, Ellis and Acton Bell over a hundred and fifty years ago.

The work celebrates this legacy, but also attempts to reinterpret the Brontës' monumentality by revealing key moments in their lives through their personal belongings. The work narrates their fascinating story while offering a contemplation on the nature of creativity, death and remembrance.
